High above Ardbeg is the deep lake Loch Uigeadail, which supplies Ardbeg with its clear, peaty water and gives its name to this sublime bottling. Uigeadail is a superb blend of different Ardbeg expressions. Classic, deep smoke is married with the juicy, sweet, raisiny notes that come from aging in sherry casks.
In 2009, Jim Murray named Ardbeg Uigeadail ‘World Whiskey of the Year’ with the words “complexity on a level only a handful of distilleries in the world can even dream of reaching”. The whiskey is aged in both bourbon and sherry casks, bottled at 54.2% and is not chill-filtered.
Colour: Deep golden.
Nose: Heavy and rich with an intoxicating smoky aroma and notes of Christmas cake, walnut oil, fresh sea spray, toffee and chocolate covered raisins.
Tasting notes: Particularly full and rich with an oily mouthfeel. The taste is a fascinating balance between sweet, spicy and smoky nuances. An initial sweetness with the flavor of Christmas cake and honey-glazed pork loin develops into a deep and delicious campfire smoke.
Serving suggestions: Enjoy neat, possibly with a drop of water.
